Initial casting has been announced for the upcoming production of Bianca Bagatourian’s play about author and social activist Howard Zinn.
Playing at the Park Theatre from the 30th July, it has been announced that television and film actor Daniel Benzali is set to star in Ché Walker’s production of Bianca Bagatourian’s play about the life of American historian, author and social activist Howard Zinn.
The Time Of Our Lies explores Zinn’s personal history, including being a soldier who dropped bombs on Rouen, France in WWll. This fateful moment troubled him for the rest of his days and shaped the man who would become a moral compass for the United States in ways that are more relevant today than ever before.
Daniel Benzali is best known for playing the role of Ted Hoffman in Murder One (20th Century Fox) for which he received a Golden Globe Award nomination, and W. G. Howe in the James Bond film, A View to a Kill (United International Pictures). His numerous West End credits include playing Juan Peron in Evita (Prince Edward Theatre) and Max von Mayerling in the original production of Sunset Boulevard(Adelphi Theatre), opposite Patti LuPone
Featuring songs using some of Howard’s words, combined with first-person accounts of war from other soldiers, all juxtaposed against a backdrop of Butoh inspired movement, The Time of Our Lies originally appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe was co-produced by Viggo Mortensen and sponsored by Eddie Vedder, Tom Shadyac, Myla Kabat-Zinn, Tim Robbins. It was nominated for the Amnesty International “Freedom of Expression” Award (2014).
This London production is set to be directed by Ché Walker with movement by Maureen Fleming and music by Gamal Chasten. It will be sponsored by Eddie Vedder (Vitalogy Foundation), Susan Sarandon, Diane Lane and Myla Kabat-Zinn, Howard’s daughter.
The Time of Our Lies will play at the Park Theatre from the 30th July until the 10th August.
