The actress chatted to Emma Clarendon about bringing On Your Feet! to the West End.

Hi Christie, thanks so much for talking to me. How excited are you about being part of this production in London? I could not be more grateful to be bringing this show to London. This story just speaks volumes to me, because I get to represent my Cuban people, as well as my people in Miami on the other side of the world! It’s beyond special to me.

How did you feel about being asked to play Gloria Estefan? A DREAM. I still pinch myself when I think back to that moment. I was so shocked, I probably gave her an awkward minute on stage before I answered. There’s videos to prove it!

Did Gloria give you any tips or advice? Be TOTALLY honest. Be organic and real. I think she feels we’re very similar in real life. I feel it too. So the minute she gives me the go to just be myself when I interpret her, I know what she’s looking for is utter realness.

Have you a favourite part of the show? I LOVE to perform ‘Tradicion’ which is one of our opening numbers. I love her medley concert moment where we have ‘On Your Feet’ and ‘Party Time.’

What was it that made you want to be part of On Your Feet? I used to listen to Gloria’s music in Miami all of the time! Everyone did! So to sing and dance the songs I grew up loving is a complete full circle. I’m thrilled to get to do it!

What have you enjoyed the most about being part of On Your Feet? I love that I have been able to travel all across the United States and now UK and Europe! I have been able to meet incredible cast members, fans both old and new, and have been able to meet and play with the ACTUAL Miami Sound Machine on stage! I’m one lucky gal!
