NEWS: Stephen Schwartz’s Rags the Musical to Play at the Park Theatre

Bronagh Lagan’s production of the musical will play at the Park Theatre from the 9th January 2020.

Following a successful season at the Hope Mill Theatre, Manchester earlier this year, Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment and Joseph Houston and William Whelton for Hope Mill Theatre have announced that Bronagh Lagen’s production will transfer to the Park Theatre in January 2020.

Featuring a book by Joseph Stein (Fiddler on the Roof), revised book by David Thompson, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) and music by Charles Strouse (Annie), Rags tells the story of Russian immigrant Rebecca, who, with her son David, travels to America in search of a better life. Rebecca must decide what matters more to her – staying true to her roots or adopting a new cultural identity in an attempt to ‘fit in’.

As well as being directed by Bronagh Lagen (Little Women, Broken Wings), the production’s creative team includes: musical direction by Joe Bunker, orchestrations by Nick Barstow, choreography by Philip Michael Thomas, set and costume design by Gregor Donnelly, lighting design by Derek Anderson, sound design by James Nicholson and casting by Jane Deitch. Casting for the production is yet to be announced.

In addition, Hope Aria Productions have also announced An Evening with Stephen Schwartz will take place on the 12th January, offering a chance to hear the composer discuss his career and life as well as a chance to present a showcase of his most memorable numbers.

Rags the Musical will play at the Park Theatre from the 9th January to the 8th February.
