The Rose Theatre Kingston’s 2019 festive show will begin performances on the 6th December.

Full casting has been confirmed for the Rose Theatre Kingston’s upcoming production of The Snow Queen, directed by Ciaran McConville.

This new version of Hans Christian Andersen’s story is set to star: Helena Blackman (The Snow Queen), Roger May (Dad/Father Christmas), Davina Moon (Freya), Parisa Shahmir (Gerda) and Jack Wolfe (Kai) alongside a cast of local young actors from Rose Youth Theatre.

Tucked away in a long forgotten corner of the city is an orphanage. Here Gerda discovers that she is no ordinary teenager, but a Child of Magic, hidden from the reaches of the evil Snow Queen. When she shows her powers to her best friend Kai, she unwittingly reveals their whereabouts. Kai is lured away, and Gerda must journey to the Frozen North into the Queen’s clutches to save him.

Her perilous adventure includes an unlikely pirate captain and a talking reindeer called Bancu, secretive elves and vicious trolls. As the Snow Queen rallies her forces, Gerda must learn the true nature of her magic powers to save Christmas and rescue Kai.

As well as being written and directed by Ciran McConville, this new version of The Snow Queen will feature set design by David Farley, costume design by Peter Todd, lighting design by Charlie Morgan Jones, sound design by Ella Wahlström, choreography by Aimee Leigh, puppet design by Oliver Hymans and Music & Lyrics, Orchestrations & Musical Direction by Eamonn O’Dwyer.

The Snow Queen will play at the Rose Theatre in Kingston from the 6th December until the 5th January.
