Broadway Shows to Look Out For…

Here’s a guide to some of the shows opening on Broadway soon including several transfers from London….

A Soldier’s Play, American Airlines Theatre: already in previews, the Roundabout Theatre Company production of Charles Fuller’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play will officially open on Broadway on the 21st January. The production stars David Alan Grier and Blair Underwood in this first Broadway production of the play.

West Side Story, Broadway Theatre: with Steven Spielberg’s film version of this classic musical coming to cinema screens this year, why not prepare by seeing this beloved story retold live on stage. Officially opening on the 20th February, the production is directed by Ivo van Hove and features choreography by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker.

Girl From the North Country, Belasco Theatre: having recently returned to the London stage, Broadway is finally showcasing this critically acclaimed production. Featuring the music of Bob Dylan, it is a story of family and love that will officially open at the Belasco Theatre on the 5th March.

Company, Jacobs Theatre: following an immensely successful run in the West End, Marianne Elliott’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical is heading to Broadway from the 2nd March, officially opening on the 22nd March. The cast is set to include Tony Award and Grammy Award winner Katrina Lenk and two-time Tony Award and two-time Grammy Award winner Patti LuPone who is reprising her role  in the production.

Diana: A New Musical, Longacre Theatre: this new musical about Princess Diana written by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan is set to star Jeanna de Waal in the title role, Roe Hartrampf as Prince Charles, Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles and Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth. Previewing from the 2nd March, the production will officially open on the 31st March.

Caroline or Change, Roundabout Theatre At Studio 54: another show transferring from London, this recent production of Tony Kushner (Angels in America) and Jeanine Tesori’s (Fun Home) musical is heading to Broadway from the 13th March, officially opening on the 7th April. The transfer will see Sharon D Clarke reprising her role from the West End.
