Frank, honest and entertaining, Fascinating Aida are a fresh of breath air when it comes to revealing a new perspective on modern life.
From songs about funerals and the menopause all the way through to fake news, no aspect of modern life is safe from the sharp and delightfully entertaining new show from Fascinating Aida now touring the UK.
Using their pitch perfect harmonies to full effect, Fascinating Aida have plenty to say through song with enough variety in which to say it to keep energy levels and enthusiasm high – particularly for their most devoted fans.
Starting with a song devoted to fake news, the show highlights what makes this cabaret act so good. Not only their sense of timing but also in their ability to create such memorable songs that have plenty of focus and certainly don’t hold back in saying what they really think as ‘One True Religion’ and ‘Cheap Flights’ prove.
Yet while the satire is always on point, it does feel at moments that the show is overwhelming to keep up with as it moves swiftly from one song to next. I couldn’t help but feel that the show was slightly longer than it really needed to be – despite the quality of the singing and the humour.
Formed of Dillie Keane, Adèle Anderson and Liza Pulman, each performer bring their own unique style to each song, that delights the audience throughout. In particular, I adored Dillie Keane’s dry humour and mannerisms during the ‘Bulgarian Song Cycle 2019’ but which soon transformed into naughty playfulness with ‘Dogging’. But all of the performers know how to deliver a song with plenty of personality and beautiful harmonies as heard on ‘Goodbye Old Friends’.
While overall this is an entertaining show, it feels as though it needs slightly more room to breath properly for the audience to fully appreciate exactly what they are listening to – particularly when the quality of the songs are this high. A fun if occasionally overwhelming show.
