Matthew Bourne’s company have announced REEL Adventures, an online programme including a series of Broadcast Premieres on Sky TV and rare screenings of some of Matthew Bourne’s most beloved productions. His production of Romeo and Juliet is to be screened on Sky Arts on the 26th April at 8pm.
It has been confirmed that Sky Arts will be presenting the broadcast premiere of Matthew Bourne’s take on Romeo and Juliet, which originally had its World Premiere at Sadler’s Wells in the Summer of 2019.
Featuring new orchestrations of Sergei Prokofiev’s score by Terry Davies performed by the New Adventures Orchestra, Matthew Bourne’s contemporary take on William Shakespeare’s tragedy sees the star crossed lovers confined against their will in a society that aims to divide.
Directed for the screen by Ross MacGibbon, the cast of New Adventures dancers includes Cordelia Braithwaite as Juliet, Paris Fitzpatrick as Romeo, Dan Wright as Tybalt and Ben Brown as Mercutio. The production was screened in cinemas October last year.
As part of the project, New Adventures have also confirmed that Sky Arts will be broadcasting the iconic production of Swan Lake filmed live at Sadler’s Wells during the 2018/2019 tour on the 19th April at 8pm and the 2015 production of The Car Man on the 3rd May at 8pm.
