The 2015 production of The Wiz will be live streamed on the 12th June for 48 hours.

This latest announcement comes as Universal (who runs The Shows Must Go On series on Youtube) postpones tonight’s screening of Peter Pan Live to share a message of support for Black Lives Matter.

The Wiz Live will be streamed live as part of The Shows Must Go On series, which has previously shown The Sound of Music, Hairspray, Cats and Jesus Christ Superstar.

This television special was originally broadcast on NBC n December 2015, directed by Kenny Leon and Matthew Diamond. It was written by Harvey Fierstein and based on The Wiz by William F. Brown and of course The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L.Frank Baum.

The cast for the show includes  Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, David Alan, Grier, Ne-Yo, Elijah Kelly, Uzo Aduba, Amber Riley, Common, Stephanie Mills, Shanice Williams.

Having opened on Broadway in 1975, the Wiz features music and lyrics by Charlie Small, Timothy Graphenreed, Harold Wheeler, George Faison and Luther Vandross.

During the show those watching the screening will be able to make a donation to the NAACP. The mission of the NAACP is to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.  

The Wiz Live will be streamed live on Friday 12th June at 7pm here. It will be available to watch for 48 hours except due to rights in Latin America and Asia.
