Jonathan O’Boyle’s production of Jason Robert Brown’s musical will return to the Southwark Playhouse from the 1st October.

It has been announced that Molly Lynch and Oli Higginson will return to their roles of Cathy and Jamie when The Last Five Years returns to the Southwark Playhouse. It was confirmed that the pair will be in the same ‘support bubble’ which means that the show will not operate under social distancing.

Jason Robert Brown’s Drama Desk Award winning musical follows the story of two New Yorkers who fall in and out of love over five years. It is unconventional in its structure as Cathy tells her story in reverse – the end of the relationship to the beginning, while Jamie tells his version from beginning to end.

The musical is being brought back to the Southwark Playhouse, having had its run shortened early due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown.

Molly Lynch’s previous credits at the Southwark Playhouse includes playing Anne Brontë in Wasted. Her stage credits also include ensemble/understudy Clara in The Light in the Piazza (Royal Festival Hall and LA Opera), Just So (The Barn Theatre, Cirencester), Sunset Boulevard (UK tour), Carousel and Sweeney Todd (English National Opera), Fiddler on the Roof (Grange Park Opera/BBC Proms) and Sacred Heart (Latitude Festival).

Meanwhile, Oli Higginson’s stage credits include: Julius Caesar (Sam Wanamaker Festival at Shakespeare’s Globe), Napoleon Blown Apart (Arcola Theatre), The Assassination of Marcus Garvey (Theatre503), Maggie and Ted (White Bear Theatre).

Performances will be taking place in The Large, with social distancing measures in place to protect staff and audiences. This includes two rows spaced just over 2m apart, with Perspex or see-through screens between each booking. Audience members will also be required to wear a face covering – unless medically exempt.

The creative team for the production includes: musical direction by George Dyer, choreography by Sam Spencer-Lane, lighting design by Jamie Platt and sound design by Adam Fisher.

The Last Five Years will play at the Southwark Playhouse from the 1st to the 31st October. To book tickets visit: https://southwarkplayhouse.co.uk/the-large/the-last-five-years/
