It might not be December yet, but Love London Love Culture’s looking to get into the festive spirit by picking some of the best Christmas songs…

The Christmas Song – sung by Nat King Cole: this is a Christmas song that always makes me feel extremely cosy, with its gentle lilting tone and festive lyrics. But equally, Nat King Cole’s gorgeously smooth vocals make it a song that you can easily listen to over and over again.

Last Christmas – Wham!: there are of course plenty of iconic songs that are constantly repeated in the shops and other public places as well as in the home – and this is one of them. Really playing on the fact that Christmas can be a time of reflection as well as joy, Last Christmas is still a heartwarming song in its own way.

Ruldolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer – Dean Martin: another song which has had numerous covers, but this particular version always puts a smile on my face. The way in which Dean Martin sings it with such personality and affection gives it a whole new meaning.

Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee: this is simply a playful and enjoyable song that really captures the joy of the Christmas period. It has a distinct style certainly makes you want to sing and dance along and is just a classic Christmas tune.

Blue Christmas – Elvis: this is simply a gorgeous song both musically and lyrically. Combined with Elvis’s distinctive vocals, it is a song that makes you appreciate having the ones that you love around you at Christmas – even if it is more about unrequited love.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas – Michael Buble: the ultimate sign that Christmas is coming is when the singer’s Christmas album is continuously played! His charm and warm vocals instantly soothes and make you feel more in the festive spirit.

White Christmas – Bing Crosby: the ultimate Christmas song written by Irving Berlin, perfectly encapsulates what everyone thinks of when it comes to celebrating the festive season. Having featured in both ‘Holiday Inn’ and ‘White Christmas’ it deservedly remains one of the most popular Christmas songs to have been written and released.

Jingle Bell Rock – Bobby Helms: cheeky, playful with plenty of charm – this is again one of those songs that you can’t help but want to sing along to. Very distinctive vocally, it is very different in terms of style as well making it stand out in comparison with other Christmas songs that have been released.

Santa Baby – Kylie Minogue: originally sung by Eartha Kitt, Santa Baby is certainly a very flirty song – taken to the next level with this version. With this version, Kylie has managed to put her own style on it – without feeling like a compare and contrast to Kitt’s original and equally as good performance.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow – Bing Crosby: delicate and heart warming, this Christmas classic is certainly one to listen to in front the fire after a long day of celebration. Crosby’s voice makes it sound like a lullaby and is gently soothing from start to finish.
