This lovely festive album features some gorgeous arrangements of traditional Christmas songs.
Collabro are back in time for Christmas with this collection of fresh interpretations of classic festive songs that showcases their harmonies beautifully.
From a joyful rendition of ‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ to the easy going and sensitive performances of ‘Silent Night’, this feels very much an album about tradition created in an understated but loving way.
This being said, this doesn’t mean that Collabro haven’t managed to put their own style on songs, with thanks to some lovely arrangements that breathe new life into songs such as ‘O Holy Night’ and ‘Ave Maria’ that have a slight contemporary edge to them without losing the spirit of the song.
It is also not an album that relies heavily on production elements, instead allowing the pitch perfect harmonies of the group to shine through as you can hear on ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ that really stands out on the album. Other highlight performances include ‘Lonely This Christmas’ which seems to have a new poignancy to it and a playfully perky rendition of ‘Winter Wonderland’ which is immensely enjoyable.
I should also mention the new original song ‘Christmas is Here’ which has some really thoughtful lyrics to it and leaves the listener feeling less alone and feeling perhaps slightly more optimistic for the future. It is a genuinely lovely new Christmas song that is filled with feeling. With this in mind, I would like to hint at the group perhaps producing even more original content in the future…
The overall vibe of the album is soothing and honestly feels good for the soul. It is understated but consistent in quality and sincerity – a genuinely lovely listen.
