The musical film which was set for release next month will now be released in cinemas in July, given the ongoing uncertainty due to the pandemic.
This new musical film directed by Kay Cannon and written by Cannon and James Corden is now expected to be released on the 16th July this year, after Sony has decided to delay the release of the film given the ongoing pandemic.
Based on the classic fairytale, the film stars singer Camila Cabello as Cinderella, Billy Porter as the fairy godmother, Idina Menzel as the evil stepmother, Minnie Driver as Queen Beatrice, Pierce Brosnan as King Rowan, Hairspray Live! star Maddie Baillio and Charlotte Spencer as the Stepsisters, Missy Elliott as the Town Crier, and Fra Fee as Hench. The cast is also set to include James Corden, John Mulaney, and Romesh Ranganathan as the mice/footmen.
The film has been originally set to be released on the 5th February, but given the ongoing world wide closure of cinemas, the film has now been moved to open the same month as the film adaptation of Lin Manuel-Miranda’s In the Heights.
Cinderella is a story that has been reinvented for several screen and stage adaptations including Disney’s live-action remake of its animated film and of course Andrew Lloyd Webber’s eagerly anticipated new musical set to officially open currently in May 2021 at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.
