It has been confirmed that the production will be filmed live at the  Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre this May, before being released in September.

The Olivier award winning musical is set to be filmed live at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in May, before being released in September 2021, marking the twentieth anniversary of 9/11.

Come From Away features book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein and tells the true story of the passenger from all over the world who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these ‘come from aways’ into their lives.

The production is directed by Tony winner Christopher Ashley and choreographed by Kelly Devine. Ashley is set to direct the live recording, as he has done for the eagerly anticipated filmed adaptation of Diana, which is expected to hit Netflix later this year.

Set to employ 222 people, including members of the Broadway cast, crew, and creative teams, Alchemy Production Group will provide stage production and general management while RadicalMedia will film the production, as they did for Hamilton and American Utopia.

Casting for the filmed version of the show has yet to be announced.
