Details have recently emerged for the redesign of the auditorium at Her Majesty’s Theatre through a planning application which has been submitted recently.

According to plans, the wok to the theatre will include alteration to the proscenium, boxes and orchestra pit and repainting of the ceiling.

It is also hoped that work to the Grade II listed building will restore the venue’s original Scagliola proscenium by repairing the brickwork, removing black paint and reinstating a timber superstructure. It is expected that this work will take at least eight weeks.

The newly announced plans are expected to help the design of its long running show The Phantom of the Opera, which currently plans to reopen in June.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical is set to see Killian Donnelly playing the role of the Phantom when the show re-opens to audiences on the 5th June, provided that social distancing rules are lifted in time.
