NEWS: You Are Here to Open at the Southwark Playhouse in May

If the government allows the opening of theatres on the 17th May, the theatre will open with the first preview of new musical You Are Here.

Having been due to run from the 29th April to the 22nd May, the production will now run from the 17th May until the 12th June – with socially distanced audiences.

Featuring music and lyrics Neil Bartram and a book by Brian Hill, You Are Here is a new musical that celebrates human resilience.

July 20, 1969. On the night of the moon landing, Chicago housewife Diana (Wendi Peters) walks out of her comfortable suburban life for no real reason. She sees the astronauts taking that great step and is struck by the realisation that some people lead exciting lives. Suddenly alone in a fast-changing world, she finds a series of unexpected encounters can turn one small step into a giant, life-changing leap.

Directed by Matthew Rankcom, the production is set to star Wendi Peters (Coronation Street) as Diana with further casting yet to be announced.

While this will be an in-person performance, there will also be one designated live-streamed performance on Friday 7th May. If the government guidance does not allow for live performances to go ahead with social distancing, then all performances of You Are Here will be live-streamed and ticket holders will be contacted with details on how to watch the alternative production online or obtain a refund.

The creative team for the production will include musical direction by Laura Bangay, set and costume design by Libby Todd, movement direction by Amie Hibbert, lighting design by Jai Morjaria and sound design by Charles Parry.

You Are Here is set to run at the Southwark Playhouse from the 17th May until the 12th June.
