New casting has been announced for the upcoming film based on the hit stage show.
Further casting has been confirmed for the upcoming musical film based on the West End musical and Roald Dahl’s book. It has been written by Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and direction by Matthew Warchus.
It has been announced that appearing as Mr and Mrs Wormwood will be Stephen Graham (Line of Duty) and Andrea Riseborough (The Death of Stalin), while comedian Sindhu Vee will play librarian Mrs Phelps. Elsewhere, Alisha Weir will be playing the title role in the film – her credits include Darklands and horror film Leave Me Alone.
They join the previously announced Emma Thompson (Love, Actually, Saving Mr Banks, The Children Act) as Miss Trunchbull and Lashana Lynch (ear for eye, No Time To Die) as Miss Honey.
The story of Matilda follows a girl who has superpowers and uses her new skills to help all those around her, while attempting to deal with the terrifying Miss Trunchbull.
This film version of Matilda the Musical will be released in cinemas in the UK by Sony Pictures, while it will receive a streamed release for other territories via Netflix. A date for the release of the film has yet to be confirmed.
