NEWS: Soho Theatre To Reopen With Shedding Skin

The production is set to play at the theatre from the 17th June.

It has been announced that the Soho Theatre will be welcoming audiences back with a production of Amanda Wilkin’s Shedding Skin the 2020 winner of the acclaimed Verity Bargate Award.

Shedding a Skin is a story for our times. A play about finding kindness in unexpected places. A play about connecting with what our elders can teach us – new skin honouring old skin. A play about joy, healing and protest. And having a good belly laugh.

The play was awarded The Verity Bargate Award, Soho Theatre’s flagship new-writing awards ponsored by Character 7. Created in 1982 the biennial playwriting award competition has uncovered the best new play by an emerging UK and Irish writer and launched the careers of some of Britain’s most established writers.

Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge described this award-winning drama as ‘profound, modern, funny, stark and hopeful’ and it was also singled out for its excellence by fellow Verity Bargate Award judges including Russell T Davies (It’s a Sin), Lolita Chakrabati (Hymn), Laura Wade (The Watsons) and Stephen Garrett of Character 7, the hitmakers behind The Night Manager and The Undoing.

Shedding A Skin will star Amanda Wilkin, who starred Morgan Lloyd Malcom’s hit show Emilia. Talking about her play she said: “I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I’d want to see when I go back to the theatre and I want belly laughs and to feel invigorated.”

The production will be directed by Elayce Ismail, with set and costume design by Rosanna Vize, lighting design by Jess Bernberg, projection design by Nina Dunn, sound design by Richard Hammarton and is produced by Ameena Hamid.

Shedding a Skin will play at the Soho Theatre from the 17th June until the 17th July. To find out more visit:
