The revival of the musical will take place in a specially built venue and will see Eddie Redmayne playing the role of Emcee – the part which he first played at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2001 and Jessie Buckley will be taking on the iconic role of Sally Bowles in the musical.

While the exact location of the Kit Kat Club is yet to be announced, the creative team for the production is going to be led by director Rebecca Frecknall and will feature design by Tom Scutt, choreography by Julia Cheng, musical supervision and direction by Jennifer Whyte, lighting design by Isabella Byrd and sound design by Nick Lidster. The production is set to be produced by Ambassador Theatre Group Productions and Underbelly.

Talking about the news, Rebecca Frecknall said: “It’s such a privilege to have the opportunity to direct Cabaret, a show that has always been dear to my heart. It’s thrilling to be able to approach this classic and important musical at a time when its themes and atmosphere feel so contemporary and resonant.”

Cabaret features music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb and includes the songs ‘Willkommen’, ‘Money’ and ‘Cabaret’. It is set 1929–1930 Berlin during the waning days of the Weimar Republic as the Nazis are ascending to power and follows the story of  Cliff Bradshaw’s relations with English cabaret performer Sally Bowles.

Further details of the production have yet to be revealed.
