NEWS: Tina – The Tina Turner Musical Announces West End Return Date

It has been confirmed that the musical will return to the Aldwych Theatre in July.

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical will resume performances in the West End from the 28th July it has been announced, following a year of being closed due to the pandemic and is currently booking to the 26th June 2022, including new Sunday performances.

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, the musical is based on the life story of Tina Turner and was produced in association with the singer herself. It originally premiered in the West End in 2018 and includes the songs ‘Nutbush City Limits’ , ‘River Deep, Mountain High’ and ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It.’

When the production returns, the cast will be led by Aisha Jawando (Motown The Musical, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical ) as Tina and Jammy Kasongo (Grand Hotel, Hair) as Ike. Full casting for the musical will be announced soon.

Talking about the news, Tina Turner said: “Music has had the power to pull me out of my darkest moments and rejoice during my happiest. To announce the re-opening of our West End show, where my musical had its premiere, means so much to me. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Tina family and our fans from around the world for their continued love and support during these unprecedented times. Let my story be a celebration, a reminder of our resilience and our ability to overcome hardship together.”

The creative team behind the production includes: choreography by Anthony van Laast, with set and costume designs by Mark Thompson, musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet,sound by Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Jeff Sugg and orchestrations by Ethan Popp. It was written for the stage by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins and produced in the West End by Stage Entertainment, Joop van den Ende and Tali Pelman, in association with Tina Turner.
