The production is set to open at the Newcastle Theatre Royal on Saturday 14th August 2021.

Producer Michael Harrison has announced the cast for Disney’s Bedknobs and Broomsticks, which will make its world premiere as a new stage musical this Summer on a major UK & Ireland Tour.

Leading the cast will be Dianne Pilkington who  will star as Miss Eglantine Price, the mysterious lady that the three orphaned Rawlins children are evacuated from wartime London to live with. Dianne’s West End credits include Les Miserables, Wicked, Mamma Mia and Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein.

Joining her will be Charles Brunton who will play Emelius Browne. Charles starred in the iconic role of Miss Trunchbull in Matilda both in the West End and on Broadway. Other credits include Love Never Dies, Chess and Scrooge. The company will also include Mark Anderson, Jessica Aubrey, Georgie Buckland, Kayla Carter, Jonathan Cobb, Jacqui Dubois, Matthew Elliot-Campbell, Sam Lupton, Rob Madge, Vinnie Monachello, Nathaniel Morrison, Conor O’Hara, Sadie-Jean Shirley, Robin Simoes Da Silva, Emma Thornett and Susannah Van Den Berg.

The Rawlins Children will be played by Dexter Barry, Izabella Bucknell, Haydn Court, Poppy Houghton, Evie Lightman and Aidan Oti.

Set to premiere at Newcastle Theatre Royal on Saturday 14th August 2021, the musical will then travel to Marlowe Canterbury, Cliffs Pavilion Southend, Gaiety Theatre Dublin, Milton Keynes Theatre, New Victoria Theatre Woking, Theatre Royal Norwich, Theatre Royal Nottingham, Congress Theatre Eastbourne, Palace Theatre Manchester, Lyceum Theatre Sheffield, King’s Theatre Glasgow, Alexandra Theatre Birmingham, His Majesty’s Theatre Aberdeen, Orchard Theatre Dartford, Mayflower Theatre Southampton and Festival Theatre Edinburgh. It will also have a five week run at the Leeds Grand next Christmas.

Based on the 1971 film starring Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson, the musical follows the adventures Eglantine Price a trainee witch who takes in the three Rawlins children, who have been evacuated from London.

Directed by Candice Edmunds and Jamie Harrison, the musical will feature music and lyrics by the Sherman Brothers as well as new tunes and additional lyrics by Neil Bartram and a book by Brian Hill.

The creative team for the production is set to include:  set and illusion design by Jamie Harrison, costume design by Gabriella Slade, orchestrations by Simon Hale, musical supervision by Tom Murray, choreography and movement directionby Neil Bettles, sound design by Gareth Fry, lighting by Simon Wilkinson, production management by Gary Beestone, and casting by Jill Green and Jo Hawes.
