Turn back the dial to 1949.Iva Toguri is charged with treason in one of the most controversial trials in American history. Iva stands accused of being the notorious ‘Tokyo Rose’, a Japanese wartime disc jockey who broadcast Axis propaganda to the Allied forces in the Pacific. But was Iva the villain she was made out to be?

Talking about the release of the album, Composer William Patrick Harrison said: “Crafting this album has been a fantastic opportunity to explore innovative new ways to score a musical. We were united as a team in our sweat and determination to realise an unrelenting thrill ride of bops, belters and ballads. I cannot wait for audiences to be inspired by the voices of these incredible women as they have inspired me. So, if this album does one thing, then let it be to declare to the world with voices that are powerful, earnest and with the most defiant joy that Iva Toguri lived!”

This new musical was first commissioned by the New Diorama Theatre and Underbelly as part of the Untapped Award, receiving its premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2019.The creative team behind the production includes: additional book by Jonathan Man, Hannah Benson and William Patrick Harrison, dramaturgy by Haruka Ueda, Benson and Man, composition by Harrison, vocal arrangements by Benson, production by Tanya Agarwal, set design by Luke W Robson, lighting by Holly Ellis, production management by LBRDR, costume by Erin Guan and publicity design by Rebecca Pitt.
