The production is set to begin performances at the August Wilson Theatre on the 26th March 2022.

It has been confirmed that joining the previously announced Golden Globe Award nominee Beanie Feldstein (“American Crime Story: Impeachment;” Hello, Dolly!) as Fanny Brice in the production will be Tony and Olivier Award nominee Ramin Karimloo (Les Misérables, Anastasia) as Nick Arnstein, five-time Emmy Award winner Jane Lynch (“Glee,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) as Mrs. Rosie Brice and Jeff Award winner Jared Grimes (A Soldier’s Play, After Midnight) as Eddie Ryan.

Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Spring Awakening), this is the first revival of the musical on Broadway for 58 years and is set to open at the August Wilson Theatre in March 2022.

Featuring an original book by Isobel Lennart, the story tells the story of Fanny Brice whose talent sees her rise from young Brooklyn music hall performer to star of the stage and her relationship with gambler Nicky Arnstein. It includes the songs ‘People’ and ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade.’

The production is set to feature choreography by  Ellenore Scott (Head Over Heels, “So You Think You Can Dance”), tap choreography by Ayodele Casel, a revised book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots, La Cage Aux Folles) and scenic design by Tony Award winner David Zinn (Fun Home), Funny Girl also features music by Tony, Grammy and Academy Award winner Jule Styne and lyrics by Tony Award nominee and Grammy Award winner Bob Merrill.

Michael Mayer directed the London revival of the musical, which was first seen at the Menier Chocolate Factory before transferring to the Savoy Theatre. While the Menier is a producer of the Broadway revival and will feature the revised book by Harvey Fierstein, this production will not be a transfer of the London production.
