NEWS: Chelsea Halfpenny to Star in UK Tour of Waitress

The Emmerdale and Casualty star is set to join the production from the 10th January 2022.

It has been announced that Chelsea Halfpenny will taking on the role of Jenna in the current UK tour of Waitress, replacing Lucie Jones, who will be moving onto a new project.

The news means that Chelsea will be joining  Sandra Marvin as Becky, Evelyn Hoskins as Dawn and Busted’s Matt Willis as Dr Pomatter. The cast also includes George Crawford as Ogie, Michael Starke, Tamlyn Henderson as Earl and Christopher D. Hunt as Cal. The company also includes Monique Ashe-Palmer, Amelia Atherton, Donal Brennan, Aimée Fisher, Scarlet Gabriel, Nathanael Landskroner, Charlie Martin, Liam McHugh, Olivia Mitchell, Ben Morris and Brian Roland.

Meet Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of some happiness in her life. When a hot new doctor arrives in town, life gets complicated. With the support of her workmates Becky and Dawn, Jenna overcomes the challenges she faces and finds that laughter, love and friendship can provide the perfect recipe for happiness.

The musical is based on the 2007 movie written by Adrienne Shelly and features music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles. Meanwhile, the creative team also includes a book by Jessie Nelson, direction by Tony-award winner Diane Paulus and choreography by Lorin Latarro.

Waitress originally opened on Broadway on the 24th April 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, where it ran until 5th January 2020. Waitress celebrated its official opening night at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End on the 7th March 2019.
