Interview With…Tracey Iliffe

We chatted to the choreographer about this year’s Thursford Christmas Spectacular.

For those who have not experienced Thursford Christmas Spectacular before what can they expect? I’d say Thursford is a large scale variety show presenting world class entertainment in a unique setting. It is all the best bits of Christmas wrapped up with heart, joy and laughter performed by some of the world’s finest musicians, singers, dancers and circus artistes. It’s a journey through beautiful poignant moments, jaw dropping spectacle and the finest musical theatre numbers outside of the West End.

How does it feel to be bringing the show back this year? Every year, the show is completely new but this year more than ever, it feels so special!!! All of the cast and creative team are itching to get back in front of a live audience. It’s been a very emotional journey for everyone here and we can’t wait for our audience to return and be a part of something that is so special to us all.

I have heard it is going to be even bigger than in previous years – how have you developed it to make it even more spectacular? Over the past few years our big company numbers have become increasingly more of a unified between the singers, dancers and instrumentalists. This year we have three large scale musical theatre production numbers that are our biggest yet. They are HUGE!!!! We are also doing an original piece with the dancers that I have never seen anyone else attempt anywhere. We also have more speciality acts than ever before.

What has been the most enjoyable thing about putting the show together? The most enjoyable part for me is seeing the idea’s that have lived in my head for the last 18 months become a reality and seeing the joy that brings to the performers and the audience. I also love the fact I get to help build a company spirit and backstage ethos of mutual respect between all the different cast members.

Why should people come along and experience it for themselves? We strive to produce entertainment that really strikes a chords with our audiences. It has heart, joy and laughter in equal measure and will leave you feeling uplifted and excited for the festive season.
