The play will be performing as part of the Young, Gifted & Black festival, which is formed of theatre, poetry, film and discussions around the Black experience in the UK.
Returning for a third year, the Young, Gifted & Black festival concentrates on stories centred around migration and
belonging. Foxes, is the debut play from Dexter Flanders and explores the complexities of sexual identity and the search for acceptance and joy, interrogating the foundations of family and community when beliefs are suddenly
disrupted.
Daniel is a young Black man who’s sparring with change. When his relationship with his best friend Leon explodes everything is knocked off its axis, introducing a taboo into his family home that has the power to burst open closet doors and reveal secrets that could tear his loved ones – and his heart – apart.
Directed by Daniel Hillier, the ensemble cast includes: Michael Fatogun (Sweet Like Chocolate Boy, Tobacco Factory Theatre), Anyebe Godwin (Little Baby Jesus, Orange Tree Theatre) Doreene Blackstock (Sex Education, Netflix; Equus, Trafalgar Studios), July Namir (Baghdad Central, Channel 4) and Tosin Alabi (Queens Of Sheba, UK National Tour).
The creative team for the production also includes: movement direction by Gerrard Martin (…cake, Theatre Peckham; GHBoy, Charing Cross Theatre) and intimacy direction by Robbie Taylor Hunt (Everything After,

Additional creatives include design work by Erin Guan (Tokyo Rose, Edinburgh Fringe) with lighting and projection design by award-winning Will Monks (Ali & Dahlia, Pleasance; Trojan Horse, Edinburgh Fringe) and sound by Josh Anio Grigg (Faith, Hope & Charity, National Theatre; Crucible, Yard Theatre).
