The production will play a limited season at the London Coliseum from the 7th May until the 27th August.
Initial casting has been announced for Bartlett Sher’s award-winning production of the musical, which originally played at New York’s Lincoln Center Theater and is the first London revival of the musical for 21 years.
It has been announced that Amara Okereke will lead the cast as Eliza Doolittle. She was recently seen in the Almeida’s acclaimed production of Spring Awakening and she won the Stage Debut Award for her performance as Cosette in Les Miserables. Also joining the cast will be Harry Hadden-Paton who reprises his performance as Henry Higgins which he originated at the Lincoln Center in New York and for which he received Tony and Grammy award nominations.
Meanwhile, it has also been announced that Dame Vanessa Redgrave will join the production to play Mrs Higgins. She is returning to the West End stage for the first time since appearing in The Inheritance in 2018. Joining her will be Maureen Beattie who will play Mrs Pearce and Sharif Afifi who will play Freddie Eynesford-Hill. Further casting will be announced soon.
My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a “proper lady”. But who is really being transformed?
Bartlett Sher’s production premiered in the spring of 2018 at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater. It won the Tony Award for Best Costume Design, five Outer Critics’ Circle Awards including Best Musical Revival, the Drama League Award for Outstanding Musical Revival, and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Musical Revival and Costume Design.
With a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe, My Fair Lady includes the classic songs “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “Get Me to the Church on Time,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” “On the Street Where You Live,” “The Rain in Spain,” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.”
The creative team behind this production includes: sets by Michael Yeargan, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Donald Holder, sound by Marc Salzberg, original musical arrangements by Robert Russell Bennett and Phil Lang, and dance arrangements by Trude Rittmann.
