It has been confirmed that the musical, based on Roald Dahl’s children’s book will open at the Milton Keynes Theatre on the 9th February 2023, before touring across the UK and Ireland.
A new production of the West End musical of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will embark on a UK and Ireland tour opening at Milton Keynes Theatre on 9th February 2023 where it will run until 5th March 2023 ahead of playing His Majesty’s Theatre Aberdeen (15th – 26th March 2023), Edinburgh Playhouse (29th March – 15th April 2023), Norwich Theatre Royal (19th – 29th April 2023), Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff (3rd – 20th May) and Canterbury Marlowe Theatre (24th May – 3rd June). The tour will follow a Christmas season at Leeds Playhouse from 18th November 2022 – 28th January 2023.
The musical tells the devilishly delicious tale of young golden ticket winner Charlie Bucket and the mysterious confectionary wizard Willy Wonka.
When Charlie wins a golden ticket to the weird and wonderful Wonka Chocolate Factory, it’s a chance of a lifetime to feast on the sweets they’ve always dreamed of. But beyond the gates astonishment awaits, as down the sugary corridors and amongst the incredible and edible delights, the five lucky winners discover not everything is as sweet as it seems.
Based on the classic Roald Dahl novel and Warner Bros. film, the musical features a book by David Greig, music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Mark Shaiman and Scott Wittman. It is directed by James Brining and designed by Simon Higlett. Further casting and tour dates have yet to be announced.
