The news comes as Beanie Feldstein announces her departure from the show on the 31st July.

Lea Michele is set to take on the role of Fanny Price in the recent Broadway revival of Jule Styne and Bob Merrill’s musical. She will begin performances in the production on the 6th September, while understudy Julie Benko will play the role from the 2nd August until the 4th September. Also announced to be joining the production is  Tovah Feldshuh as Mrs Brice also from the 6th September.

Featuring an original book by Isobel Lennart, Funny Girl tells the story of Fanny Brice whose talent sees her rise from young Brooklyn music hall performer to star of the stage and her relationship with gambler Nicky Arnstein. It includes the songs ‘People’ and ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade.’

Tony Award winner Michael Mayer directs this brand-new Funny Girl, featuring the classic score by Tony, Grammy and Academy Award winner Jule Styne and lyrics by Tony Award nominee and Grammy Award winner Bob Merrill, (comprising additional songs from Styne & Merrill).

Michael Mayer directed the London revival of the musical, which was first seen at the Menier Chocolate Factory before transferring to the Savoy Theatre. The creative team behind this production also includes: choreography by  Ellenore Scott (Head Over Heels, “So You Think You Can Dance”), tap choreography by Ayodele Casel, a revised book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots, La Cage Aux Folles) and scenic design by Tony Award winner David Zinn (Fun Home).
