The theatre has confirmed details of its upcoming season.

The North London based theatre has announced plans for its upcoming season of shows.

It has been confirmed that the Almeida Theatre will host the world premiere of new musical Tammy Faye, written by Elton John Jake Shears and James Graham. Playing at the theatre from the 13th October to the 3rd December, the cast will be led by Katie Brayben (Beautiful) as Tammy Faye, Tony Award-nominee Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon, Girls) as Jim, and Olivier Award-nominee Zubin Varla (Fun Home) as Jerry Falwell. The production is directed by Rupert Goold.

Meanwhile, the season will then continue with a new revival of Streetcar Named Desire, which will play at the theatre from the 10th December until the 4th February 2023. The production is set to be directed by Rebecca Frecknall and will star Paul Mescal, Anjana Vasan and Lydia Wilson.

February 2023 will see the world premiere of Lulu Raczka’s Women, Beware the Devil, which will play at the Almeida until the 25th March. The play is set in the 17th century and is a story of witchcraft, treachery and trickery. Casting has yet to be confirmed.

This will then be followed by the UK premiere of The Secret Life of Bees, written by Lynn Nottage (Sweat), Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) and Susan Birkenhead (Jelly’s Last Jam). This musical will be directed by Whitney White and is based on the novel by Sue Monk Kidd.

Talking about the news of the season, Rupert Goold said: “After a wonderful, if challenging, year since reopening we are thrilled to be presenting this exciting season of work that builds on relationships we have with artists new and familiar, our local community, and above all with the audiences that continue to discover and cherish the uniqueness of our building.”
