The film is set to be released in May 2023.
Disney have released the first trailer for its upcoming live action film of The Little Mermaid, set to star Halle Bailey as Ariel and will be heading to screens from May 2023.
Directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns, Into the Woods), the cast is also set to include: Daveed Diggs, Javier Bardem, Jacob Tremblay, Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina, and Jonah Hauer-King. Noma Dumezweni (“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” on Broadway), Jessica Alexander, Russell Balogh, Adrian Christopher, and Emily Coates will also star.
The film is set to include all of the classic songs from the animated film, written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman including: “Part of Your World,” “Under the Sea,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and “Kiss the Girl”. For this live action re-make, Alan Menken has teamed up with Lin-Manuel Miranda to write four new songs.
Loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale and the 1989 animated film, this new film features a screenplay written by David Magee from a story by Magee, Marshall and John DeLuca.
