The news of the film came as part of the D23 expo.
Disney have confirmed that they will be releasing a prequel to the 2019 live action adaptation of The Lion King, which is set to focus on the story of Mufasa and his youth spent alongside his villainous brother Scar.
Titled Mufasa: The Lion King, the film is set to be directed by Barry Jenkins and will see familiar characters Rafiki, Timon, and Pumba will tell the story of Mufasa to a young lion cub from his youth as an orphan with his brother Scar and his path to becoming king.
According to reports, the film is set to star Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr as Mufasa and Scar, alongside John Kani as Rafiki, Billy Eichner as Timon, and Seth Rogen as Pumba. Further information about the film us yet to be announced.
