The first part based on the hit musical is set to be released in cinemas in 2024.

Bridgerton and West End star Jonathan Bailey has been cast as Fiyero in the upcoming big screen adaptation of the musical Wicked, the first part of which will be released in 2024 and the second part being released the year after. Further casting has yet to be announced.
Directed by Jon M. Chu (In the Heights), the film is also set to star Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. As with the musical, the film is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. It will feature many of the songs from the musical, which were written by Stephen Schwartz and a screenplay by Winnie Holzman who also wrote the book for the musical.
Before Dorothy, before the flying house, and before the yellow brick road, there was Elphaba and Galinda. Born with emerald-green skin, Elphaba is smart, fiery, misunderstood and possesses extraordinary talent. When circumstances force her to room with the bubbly blonde and exceptionally popular, Galinda, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships. This is the story of The Wizard of Oz reimagined.
Jonathan Bailey has most recently been seen in the second series of Bridgerton as Anthony Bridgerton. His theatre credits include roles in recent West End run of Cock (Ambassadors Theatre), directed by Marianne Elliott – who also directed him in the critically acclaimed production Company for which he won an Olivier Award.
Further details about the film have yet to be announced.
