We chatted to Georgina about starring as Ado Annie in the new production of Oklahoma! now playing at the Wyndham’s Theatre.

Hi Georgina – how does it feel to be part of this production? It’s been such a gift creating with this company and the talent in the room is overwhelming. It’s also been a complete joy exploring Ado Annie in rehearsals. I’m really looking forward to playing in front of an audience and seeing what new things I discover.
What would you say makes this production of Oklahoma! stand out? This version will definitely challenge your perception of Oklahoma in every sense. It’s provocative, sensual and visceral.
What do you enjoy the most being part of this production? This company is so bloody lovely and hilarious. I’ve actively noticed that comedian level. We’re all onstage the whole time so we spend so much time together on and off stage.
When did you first come across Oklahoma!? I can’t really pinpoint the exact age I was when I discovered it but I feel like it’s just one of those musicals that feels like you’ve always known it. It’s such a classic.
For those yet to experience this particular version of the musical – what can they expect? It’s definitely Oklahoma as you’ve never seen it before – unless you saw the
Young Vic version – then yeah it’s that version, although it’s changed since then as well. It’s going to be completely different to what you might imagine it to be and I think that’s exciting.
Could you tell me more about your character Ado Annie? She is so, so confident and embodied and I’ve actually learnt a lot from how she interacts with the world. I think we all need to go through life with a bit of Ado Annie. She’s very unapologetic.
What do you think makes this musical special? I think the musical asks a great deal from the audience and I think you’ll leave with a sense that you have, collectively, been a part of something important. The magic is in the truth of every scene and this version of Oklahoma puts the truth at its core.
