The Broadway musical based on the life of Princess Diana will have its UK debut in a concert at the Eventim Apollo in December.

It has been announced that David Bryan and Joe DiPietro’s musical based on the life of Princess Diana will make its UK debut in a concert production at the Eventim Apollo on the 4th December, having originally premiered on Broadway.
It is 1996. Diana has divorced the heir to the throne. She is free.
This radical new concert version of Diana: The Musical, hands the microphone to Diana as she reflects on her past. In a theatrical twist, this is a tale in two parts, narrated by Diana (Kerry Ellis) as she looks back on herself as the 19-year-old Diana (Maiya Quansah-Breed) that captured the nation. Denise Welch guest-stars as The Queen.
West End star Kerry Ellis is best known for her performances as Elphaba in the hit musical Wicked, with her other roles also including: Grizabella in Cats, Nancy in Oliver!, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Ellen in Miss Saigon, Fantine in Les Miserables, Sara in Murder Ballad and Alice in Wonderland.
Maiya Quansah-Breed was Olivier nominated for her role as Catherine Parr in the Original London Cast of Six: The Musical. Her other credits include: Philoclea in Head Over Heels (Hope Mill Theatre); Mimi in Rent (Hope Mill Theatre); Catherine Parr in Six: The Musical (Arts Theatre); Laura in The Distance You Have Come (Apollo Theatre).
Denise Welch’s theatre credits include: 2018 Calendar Girls UK Tour, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at The Royal Exchange Theatre, UK tour of Steel Magnolias, Smack Family Robinson at The Rose Theatre Kingston, The Ancient Secret of Youth and The Five Tibetans at The Octagon Theatre Bolton, Grease at The Haymarket Theatre Leicester and Ruby in Yakety Yak at The Astoria.
This concert production of the musical is directed by Owen Horsley, whose previous credits also include Henry VI: Rebellion, The War of the Roses, Maydays, Salome, The Famous Victories of Henry V (Royal Shakespeare Company); Linck & Mülhahn (Hampstead Theatre); Dorian (Reading Rep); Hamlet (CSC, New York); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Garsington Opera); Henry V (Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre) and The Picture of Dorian Gray (Watermill Theatre).
The musical features music by Bon Jovi keyboard player David Bryan and book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro, the team behind the Tony Award-winning musical ‘Memphis’. DiPietro also wrote the book for the Tom Jones musical ‘What’s New Pussycat?’ and the book and lyrics for the long running off-Broadway musical ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’. The musical supervisor is Adam Hoskins (The Secret Garden, Once in Concert, Annie Get Your Gun).
