Emma Clarendon chatted to Jenna about bringing Flowers for Mrs Harris to London’s Riverside Studios.

Hi Jenna, for those who haven’t seen Flowers for Mrs Harris what can they expect? A beautiful new musical about an ordinary woman who goes on an extraordinary adventure. You will laugh and most definitely cry.

What would you say it is about this story that appeals to audiences? We all know these people. The story centres on Ada, a cleaner in post-war London. She’s our
mother, our grandmother. It’s a heart-wrenching story, that hopefully reminds us to take life by the short and curly’s and live.

How does it feel to be part of this production? Wonderful. We are having such a great time working on this beautiful show. The cast and creative team are all fabulous and at the top of their game.

When did you first discover Flowers for Mrs Harris? I saw the original production at Chichester and absolutely adored it. I knew the director and lots of the cast so, I went to support them and ended up having one of the best nights I’ve ever spent in the theatre. I loved every second.

How do you see your character, Ada? She is a normal working-class woman, with the wonderful gift of kindness.

What are you most looking forward to about bringing the musical to the Riverside Studios? I’m thrilled that more people will be able to see it. This show always deserved a wider audience. Bringing it to The Riverside Studios will hopefully do that.
