NEWS: Next to Normal to Transfer to the West End

The musical, which had a run at the Donmar Theatre earlier this year, will begin performances at the Wyndham’s Theatre from the 18th June 2024.

The 2008 musical, which features  music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, will have a 14 week run at the Wyndham’s Theatre, booking until the 21st September 2024. Tickets for the show will go on sale on the 1st December.

Next to Normal is an intimate exploration of family and loss. At its heart is Diana Goodman, a suburban wife and mother living with bipolar disorder and haunted by her past.

First seen on Broadway in 2009, Next to Normal won three Tony Awards as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The UK premiere of the musical was directed in a new production by Michael Longhurst and starred: Caissie Levy, Trevor Dion Nicholas and Jamie Parker.

Talking about the West End transfer, Michael Longhurst said: “Some stories pierce the heart of the human condition: Tom and Brian’s astonishing musical does just that – facing our deepest vulnerabilities whilst celebrating our capacity to endure. The outpouring of emotion from audiences at the Donmar was incredible: you could hear audible sobs before they surged to their feet every single night – like nothing I’ve experienced. Tickets were impossible to come by, so I am beyond thrilled that more people will now be able to experience the work of this extraordinary creative team.”

The creative team involved with the show also includes: music supervision by Nigel Lilley, design by Chloe Lamford, lighting by Lee Curran, sound design by Tony Gayle, movement, choreography and additional direction by Ann Yee, video by Tal Rosner, musical direction by Nick Barstow, production management by Chris Hay and casting by Anna Cooper.

Casting for the West End run has yet to be announced.
