PREVIEW: Look Behind You!, Tabard Theatre

This is the latest production from Strut & Fret will play at the theatre from the 17th January until the 3rd February.

Twenty five years ago, Strut & Fret staged their swansong, Look Behind You by Daniel Wain, at the Tabard Theatre, Chiswick. It is now returning to London, to the very same venue for a strictly limited run starting this month.

Having been written by Daniel Wain, Look Behind You has been radically revised and modernised his script. The show, which was previously described as Noises Off in Pantoland” now has far more satirical sting, more political punch – while retaining humour and poignancy that made it a success the first time around.

Look Behind You follows the ups, and largely downs, of a professional theatre company staging the stock panto Dick Whittington in a godforsaken seaside town.  While the ‘happy-ever-after’ panto plays onstage, we see the behind-the-scenes reality.  The Britannia Theatre is falling down.  Nothing works.  There’s no money, no support, no hope.  This is the end of the road, the end of the pier.  The developers and foreign investors are circling…

This revival will see Wain returning to the show , not just as writer but as an actor (theatre manager Sam and his panto alter ego Sarah the Cook), with Cait Chidgey (now Cait Hart Dyke) also reprising her role from a quarter-century ago, with her Russian ‘Bond girl’ is now a reality TV star from Essex!  Designer Richard Evans recreates his original set. In addition, Marc Brenner, the director of the original 1999 Look Behind You and now one of British theatre’s leading photographers, returns to shoot the new production.

The cast for the production also includes: Ellie Armstrong, Olivia Jackson, Annabel Miller, Anna Piggott, Steve Pratt, Oliver Redpath, Caroline Ross, Mia Skytte and Matt Tester. It is directed by Barney Hart Dyke.
