NEWS: Lead Casting Announced for Tammy Faye on Broadway

The musical is set to begin performances at the Palace Theatre on the 19th October.

Casting and further details have been announced for the upcoming Broadway run of Elton John and Jake Shears’ musical, which is transferring to New York following on from the Almeida Theatre run in 2022.

The musical, which is the first full production to play the Palace Theatre since its renovation, will see Katie Brayben and Andrew Rannells reprise their performances as televangelists Tammy Faye Bakker and Jim Bakker. Brayben received an Olivier Award for her work, while Bakker was nominated for his performance.

It’s the 1970s. As satellites broadcast brand-new cable programming into American homes, millions fall in love with Tammy Faye Bakker – the charismatic wife of pastor Jim Bakker.  Together, they build a nationwide congregation that puts the fun back into faith. But, even as Tammy dazzles on screen, jealous rivals plot behind the scenes, threatened by her determination to lead with love.

The Broadway run will officially open on the 14th November and features a score by Elton John (music) and Jake Shears (lyrics), a book by James Graham, choreography by Lynne Page, and direction by Rupert Goold.

Meanwhile, the creative team also includes: Tom Deering (orchestrations/arrangements/additional music), Mark Dickman (orchestrations), Bunny Christie (sets), Katrina Lindsay (costumes), Neil Austin (lighting), Nick Lidster for Autograph (sound), and Finn Ross (video). Casting is by C12 Casting/Carrie Gardner and Jullian Cimini.
