The new musical is set to begin performances at the Belasco Theatre on the 18th September, with official opening night set for the 17th October.

It has been announced that Darren Criss will star alongside Helen J Shen (who will be making her Broadway debut) in Maybe Happy Ending, written by Will Aronson (music and book) and Hue Park (lyrics and book) with direction by Tony Award winner Michael Arden (Parade). The cast is also set to include Dez Duron (NBC’s The Voice) who will also be making his Broadway debut.
Inside a one-room apartment on the outskirts of Seoul, Oliver lives a happily quiet life, listening to jazz records and caring for his favorite plant. But what else is there to do when you’re a Helperbot 3, a robot that has long been retired and considered obsolete? When his fellow Helperbot neighbor Claire asks to borrow his charger, what starts as an awkward encounter leads to a unique friendship, a surprising adventure, and maybe even…love?
The musical was written in both Korean and English language versions. The Korean version of the show opened at in December of 2016 at DaeMyung Culture Factory in Seoul and subsequently won six Korean Musical Awards including Best Musical. Meanwhile, the English language version was awarded the 2017 Richard Rodgers Production Award and had its US premiere at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta.
While further casting for Maybe Happy Ending has yet to be announced, the creative team is set to include: scenic and additional video design by Dane Laffrey, costume design by Tony Award-winner Clint Ramos. Lighting design is by Tony Award-nominee Ben Stanton. Sound design is by Tony Award-winner Peter Hylenski. Video design by George Reeve. Deborah Abramson is the music supervisor and John Yun will be the music director. Justin Scribner is the production stage manager.
