Interview With…Sirine Saba

Could you tell us a little bit more about ‘Some Demon’? Some Demon is a beautiful, true and authentic exploration of the challenges, joys, heartbreaks and truths of living with an eating disorder. It also explores human beings in all our glorious messiness.

The play covers some very important but difficult issues – how has it been
working on the production so far?
My job as an actor is to tell Laura Waldron’s story in her play with as much honesty and respect as possible. It has been an honour to be a part of this deeply personal and incredible story: every day is about telling the truth, Laura’s wonderful writing and honouring the incredible complexity of the human spirit.

What was it that made you want to be part of this production of ‘Some Demon’? Laura has written a play that makes you laugh, cry, smile, rage, feel, think. This story
needs to be told and I wanted very much to be a part of that journey.

How does it feel to be bringing this story to the stage? We have a responsibility to tell this story properly. As it is meant to be told. That is what I am feeling the most. The desire for and the responsibility of that.

What was it that stood out for you about Laura Waldren’s play when you read
it?
The characters. How witty they are, how much potential they have. The authenticity
of their story. And it actually made me laugh out loud in places when I read it.

What do you think that audiences will take away from ‘Some Demon’? I hope they will take away a beautiful, poignant and true understanding of what
living with a mental illness can be like in all its messy, funny, tragic truth.
