We take a look at some of the theatre opening in London this month….

The Box, White Bear Theatre: Mixed Up Theatre will present the London premiere of Brian Coyle’s play which examines relationships and the consequences of lying. It will run at the theatre from the 23rd July until the 3rd August and stars Off West End Award nominated actors Martin Edwards and Sarah Lawrie.
Skeleton Crew, Donmar Warehouse: in performances until the 24th August, Dominique Morisseau’s Tony Award winning play is receiving its UK premiere in a production directed by Matthew Xia. Set in 2008, it follows a group of workers facing losing their jobs and whether they can stay loyal to each other or will they choose to save themselves?

Your Lie in April, Harold Pinter Theatre: officially opening in the West End this month, following two concert performances earlier this year, this musical is based on the manga. The story focusing on Kōsei Arima, a young piano prodigy, and his inability to play following his mother’s death who then strikes a friendship with violinist Kaori Miyazono and she slowly encourages him to perform again. Dorian: The Musical, Southwark Playhouse: for those looking for a classic story with a modern twist, then you will want to head to the Southwark Playhouse for this modern, queer adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s story. Running at the theatre from the 4th July until the 10th August, it is directed by Linnie Reedman and features music & lyrics by Joe Evans.

Carousel: A Concert, Royal Festival Hall: for one performance only, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic musical returns to London. With a stellar cast including: Jamie Muscato, Christine Allado and Rebecca Caine this is sure to be a concert that you won’t want to miss!
Red Speedo, Orange Tree Theatre: the Richmond based theatre’s season continues with the UK premiere of Lucas Hnath’s play that is directed by Matthew Dunster and stars Finn Cole, best known for his role as Michael Gray in Peaky Blinders. It will run at the theatre from the 13th July until the 10th August.

The Grapes of Wrath, National Theatre: from the 17th July, the National Theatre presents a new stage adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic starring Tony Award-winner Cherry Jones (The Glass Menagerie, Succession) and Harry Treadaway (The Chemistry of Death, Penny Dreadful). Directed by Carrie Cracknell, it will run until the 14th September.
Shrek the Musical, Eventim Apollo: the loveable ogre is back in town as the musical begins performances for a strictly limited six week run on the 19th July. The cast includes: Antony Lawrence (Shrek), Joanne Clifton (Princess Fiona), James Gillan (Lord Farquaad) and Cherece Richards (Dragon).
