The film will be screened as the festival’s closing night gala on the 20th October.
It has been announced that the UK premiere of Piece by Piece will be screened as the closing film of the 2024 BFI London Film Festival in October, with director Morgan Neville and Pharrell Williams both confirmed to attend.
This new documentary is an animated biopic of the the life and work of Pharrell Williams in a medium that Williams himself suggested in early conversations with the director, who describes the choice of LEGO® animation as a metaphor for how Williams see the world.
As well as Williams himself, the star-studded cast (all created through LEGO) also includes: Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Gwen Stefani, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg. The film charts Pharrell Williams’s journey from humble beginnings in Virginia Beach and his early career as a producer in The Neptunes and performer in N.E.R.D., to become one of the most prolific and successful artists working today.
Talking about the news of the film’s inclusion at the BFI London Film Festival Director Morgan Neville said: “The BFI London Film Festival has been supportive of my career for a long time, with my first time screening there being over twenty years ago. Bringing Piece by Biece to the LFF means the world to me, and getting to be the closing night gala is the cherry on top of this huge honour. I’m thrilled to celebrate this film with the London audience.”
Piece by Piece will be released in UK cinemas on the 8th November.
