NEWS: Further Casting & Dates Announced for Thomas Ostermeier’s Production of The Seagull

The new adaptation of Chekhov’s play by Duncan Macmillan and Thomas Ostermeier is heading to The Barbican next year.

Further details have been unveiled about the upcoming new production of The Seagull, which will begin performances at The Barbican on the 26th February and run until the 5th April. Opening night has been set for the 6th March.

Joining the previously announced Cate Blanchett (Arkadina) and Tom Burke (Trigorin) will be:  Priyanga Burford (Polina), Emma Corrin (Nina), Zachary Hart (Medvedenko), Paul Higgins (Shamrayev), Tanya Reynolds (Masha), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Konstantin), and Jason Watkins (Sorin). More casting will be announced soon.

Blanchett stars as Arkadina, a celebrated actress whose larger-than-life presence dominates both the stage and her personal relationships. Arriving at her family’s country estate for the weekend, she finds herself caught up in a storm of conflicting desires. Her playwright son, Konstantin, struggles to step out of her shadow as he pursues his own artistic ambitions and her lover Trigorin, played by Tom Burke, becomes the object of affection for the aspiring young actress Nina.

Directed by Ostermeier, the creative team is also set to include: Magda Willi (Set Design), Marg Horwell (Costume Design), Tom Gibbons (Sound Design), and Jim Carnahan CSA & Liz Fraser CSA (Casting).

Tickets for the production will start at £20 and will go on sale as follows: from 10am on 7 October for Barbican Patrons, 4pm on 7 October for Barbican Members Plus, 10am on 8 October for standard Barbican Members and 12pm on 8 October for Wessex Grove’s (one of the co-producers) priority list. General on-sale will be on 9 October at 10am.
