It seems as though Greek plays are all the range on the London stage at the moment. Here’s a guide to some already playing and those coming up!

Hadestown, Lyric Theatre: given the fact that the story of Orpheus and Eurydice has music right at the centre of it, it makes sense as to why it was transformed into a musical that has quite a cult following. Featuring a score that is jazz and blues infused, it is a story that has been imaginatively been brought to life that still ensures the spirit of the original story is there as well.
Oedipus, Wyndham’s Theatre: Mark Strong and Lesley Manville star in Robert Icke’s latest adaptation based on a Greek tragedy (following on from his production and adaptation of Oresteia) that will be sure to enthral audiences…
Eurydice, Jermyn Street Theatre: placing the focus on Eurydice, this show offers a different perspective of the story that we are all familiar with, asking whether Eurydice is doomed to spend the rest of eternity in the land of the dead or will she find her way back to the land of the living by following her lover?
The Other Place, National Theatre: Alexander Zeldin’s take on the original story by Sophocles is now playing – so do catch up with our review round up here. This is a new take of Antigone, starring Emma D’Arcy, Lee Braithwaite and Tobias Menzies.
Elektra, Duke of York’s Theatre: from the 24th January, catch Brie Larson in Daniel Fish’s production of the Sophokles play which features a translation by poet Anne Carson. Its the first time that the play has been revived in the West End for 10 years.
Oedipus, Old Vic Theatre: the Old Vic Theatre will be putting their own version of the play next year from the 21st January until the 29th March. Starring Rami Malek and Indira Varma, this new version of the play has been adapted by Ella Hickson and co-directed by Matthew Warchus and Hofesh Shechter.
