Jamie Armitage’s (co-director of SIX) debut play will run for a limited time at the Hampstead Theatre from the 16th January.
Recognised as as Summerhall’s fastest-selling show in eight years at the 2023 Edinburgh Festival, Jamie Armitage’s play will make its London debut next year.
Officially opening on the 23rd January, An Interrogation is set to star: Rosie Sheehy
as the police officer Ruth Palmer, Jamie Ballard will play the role of Cameron Andrews,
the suspect, whilst Colm Gormley takes on the part of the senior investigating
officer, John Culin.
Joanna Nelson has been missing for 68 hours, and with every second that passes, D.C Ruth Palmer’s hope of finding her dwindles. The young detective sits down to interview someone who looks like the least likely person to be linked to this investigation. He’s a devoted son, a successful businessman and a respectable member of society. But as the minutes slip away, the detective starts to suspect that all is not what it seems…
The play, which will also be directed by Jamie Armitage, is based on a real interview between Ontario Provincial Police Detective Staff Sergeant James Smith and a seemingly respectable man, Colonel Russell Williams.
Jamie Armitage comments: “One of my first ever assistant directing jobs was at Hampstead Downstairs, so it is very special for me to bring my first play to this beautiful venue. It is such an exciting opportunity to be able to re-explore and expand this story, while taking the production to the next level with exciting new design and technical elements. An Interrogation thrilled audiences in Edinburgh, so we hope that London audiences will have the same visceral response to this suspenseful story full of twists, turns and intrigue.”
The show is produced by Ellie Keel who said: “I’m so delighted to be transferring Jamie’s brilliantly powerful and compelling play to the Hampstead Theatre, with a stellar cast and creative team. I know that London audiences are going to love An Interrogation as much as Edinburgh audiences did — it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to be at the helm of such a popular and acclaimed play.”
Meanwhile, the creative team involved with the production includes: Designer Sarah Mercade, Lighting Designer Jonathan Chan, Sound Designer / Composer Tom Foskett-Barnes, Video Designer Dan Light and Casting Director Becky Paris.
