As we hurtle towards the end of the year, here’s our guide to some of the exciting theatre heading to London next year…

The Seagull, Barbican: one of the highest anticipated shows of 2025, Cate Blanchett and Tom Burke are set to star in Thomas Ostermeier’s production of Chekhov’s play which examines unrequited love, art and fame.
Richard II, Bridge Theatre: Jonathan Bailey returns to the stage to star in Nicholas Hytner’s new production of Shakespeare’s play, which will run for a limited season only from the 10th February until the 10th May.

Hercules, Theatre Royal Drury Lane: from the 6th June 2025, the West End will welcome another Disney film adaptation to the stage. The musical features the songs from the original film (written by Alan Menken and David Zippel) such as “Go the Distance”, “I Won’t Say (I’m In Love)” and “Zero to Hero”.
Unicorn, Garrick Theatre: officially opening in the West End on the 13th February, this will be the world premiere of Mike Bartlett’s latest play. Directed by James MacDonald , the production is set to star: Nicola Walker, Stephen Mangan and Erin Doherty.

My Master Builder, Wyndham’s Theatre: it was recently announced that Ewan McGregor is set to return to the London stage to star in Lila Raicek’s new play, directed by Michael Grandage. The production will run in the West End from the 17th April until the 12th July.
Oedipus, Old Vic Theatre: Rami Malek and Indira Varma will star in Ella Hickson’s adaptation of Sophocles’s tragedy which is being co-directed by Matthew Warchus and Hofesh Shechter.

Churchill in Moscow, Orange Tree Theatre: Roger Allam is set to star in this world premiere production of Howard Brenton’s new play that imagines what would have happened if Winston Churchill met with Joseph Stalin. It will run at the Richmond based theatre from the 3rd February until the 8th March.
Clueless the Musical, Trafalgar Theatre: based on the film and featuring music by KT Tunstall and lyrics by Glenn Slater, this new musical will head to the London stage from the 8th February 2025. The story itself is inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma.

The Comedy About Spies, Noel Coward Theatre: from the team behind The Comedy About a Bank Robbery and The Play That Goes Wrong comes this brand new show which will begin performances in the West End from the 14th April. Expect plenty of laughs and suspicious activity!
Just For One Day, Shaftesbury Theatre: following its successful run at the Old Vic Theatre, this new musical based on the stories of ordinary people surrounded around the backdrop of the Live Aid concert. It features the music of many of the artists who performed that day including: Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Who, U2, Queen, Madonna, The Police, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Diana Ross. It will begin performances from the 15th May.
