Quick Fire Questions With…Jordan Kai Burnett

What can UK audiences expect from Scissorhandz? A queer fantasia! A beautiful, haunting, and delightful night at the theatre.

What made you want to be part of the production initially? I have always loved the movie and, if Bradley Bredeweg asks me to do something, it’s not if I can be there -but when!

How do you feel about taking the character of Scissorhands and making it your own? I think it’s really important to honour the movie we all love, while remembering it’s gonna be inherently different if a gender fluid queer person plays this part. I want everyone who feels a little bit other to feel welcome in our space. That’s what this show does.

What are you most looking forward to about being part of the UK production? Working in London! It has been a dream of mine forever to cross the pond, and to do it with this show? I’M ECSTATIC.

For you, what does the story of Scissorhandz mean to you? It’s about being who you are, authentically, not trying to be someone for other people. Proceeding with integrity and confidence even when the world begs you not to.  Believing in yourself and supporting others to do the same.
