We chatted with Dianne about starring in the UK premiere of Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
Hi Dianne, how does it feel to be part of the UK premiere of Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors? Like a whirlwind! It’s very physical so we’ve absorbed a lot in a very short space of time, to allow us loads of freedom to be creative! We are having far too much fun for it to be legal.
What can audiences expect from the show? The unexpected.. it’s the story and the myth we all know and love, but challenging gender expectations and taking different forks in the road.
What are you most enjoying about being part of Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors? I’m enjoying exploring the masculine side of both myself and the characters. I often play
very glamorous, feminine roles so this is an interesting departure.
What can you tell us about your character Dr Westfeldt? He is a rather pompous misogynist, absolutely a product of his time and class, desperately wants to maintain the status quo-but ultimately a man who loves his daughters and would doanything for them.
How are you about horror stories & films in general? I love vampire movies and stories particularly. It started with the Ladybird book of Dracula, then the Lost Boys. I find the Supernatural fascinating. I’m also a huge Anne Rice fan.
What was it that made you want to be part of the production? I read the script and howled- it brought to mind two of my favourite jobs- Young Frankenstein
and 39 Steps. But particularly the chance to play against my usual type- sign me up!
