Review Round Up: The Little Prince, London Coliseum

Broadway World: *** “There’s plenty of eye candy but little to feed the heart. Mouron keeps to the core events but rarely gives us the emotional catharsis of the original text. Her role feels misplaced and often unnecessary as she appears and disappears, walking around or standing in the corner, stepping up to deliver dialogue but adding little emotion or depth to the story.”

Everything Theatre: *** “Really, this is a beautiful, enchanting production. However, I couldn’t help but feel it was a show made for grown-ups – dazzling with literalness and glamour but leaving little for personal imaginative engagement.”

All That Dazzles: *** “The Little Prince at the London Coliseum boasts some incredible performances, acrobatic routines, and visually striking moments, however, the overall execution left me feeling a little detached. Its appeal may be limited, as it struggles to find the right tone for both children and adults. Some creative choices, just didn’t land, making it that bit harder to completely immerse yourself in this magical world. That being said, for those who appreciate movement-based theatre, there is still much to entertain.”

The Reviews Hub: *** “The show is flashy and loud, using a score composed by Terry Truck to good effect, but makes a slightly overwhelming evening’s entertainment. The delicacy and precision of Saint-Exupéry’s fable gets lost in the large-scale theatrics, and most notably there is no attempt to sustain the central theme of the novella, the relationship between the lost Little Prince and the lost airman.”

The Upcoming: *** “Tournié’s The Little Prince is undoubtedly a visual feat, and as a standalone piece of theatre, it impresses. However, as an adaptation of the beloved classic, it occasionally falters, losing touch with the simple heart of its source material.”

The Stage: *** “Uneven acrobatic spectacular based on the world’s most translated novella.”

West End Best Friend: *** “Choreographer and Director Anne Tournié keeps the story developing and uses movement well to sketch in each character as they appear, mostly successfully, although occasionally the moves seem overly repetitive.”

Theatre Vibe: “Somehow despite the elegant choreography on display, the show failed to engage me emotionally but then I am not French and wasn’t brought up to appreciate Le Petit Prince as one of my most loved books.  There is so much more competition now for the children’s theatre audience since this show was first brought into existence six years ago but it has been on a world tour to many places where it was greatly appreciated.”

North West End: ***** “This is way more than just a theatrical adaptation, ‘The Little Prince’ is a poetic, visually striking experience that lingers in the mind long after the final bow. It invites audiences of all ages to rediscover the story’s magic and, like the Little Prince himself, to look beyond the surface in search of deeper truths.”

British Theatre Guide: “Production values are extremely high: video design by Marie Jumelin; costume design by Peggy Housset; lighting design by Stéphane Fritsch; sound design by Tristan Viscogliosi; video projection by Etienne Beaussart are the show. The performers have to work very hard—they do—to be visible. Terry Truck’s sound score keeps it trucking in a variety of musical genres, suggesting place and culture.”

Adventures in Theatreland: **** “Nonetheless, it was a beautiful show of a timeless story which, in my opinion, is one which needs to be read internationally. However, if the storylines are very new to you, it may be worth doing a little pre-show research to feel fully immersed in the experience.”

A Young (ish) Perspective: **** “The Little Prince at the London Coliseum doesn’t just retell the story—it creates a world that feels both theatrical and intimate, dreamlike yet tangible. For those willing to surrender to its magic, it’s a journey well worth taking.”
