We chatted to Imogen about starring in Anne-Marie Casey’s stage adaptation of Little Women which continues to tour the UK.
Hi Imogen, what can audiences expect from this adaptation of Little Women? Audiences can expect lots of joy, laughter and maybe a few tears, but overall a heart warming tale, centred around the journey of these four sisters from girls to women.
What was your first experience with the story? My mum used to read me the book when I was little! I adored it and all of the wonderful characters that Louisa
May Alcott wrote with such detail and humanity.
Amy is always portrayed as being spoiled – but how do you see her? I don’t believe she is. She’s the youngest sister in a family of wonderful and talented women and she just wants to be included and taken more seriously than she is. I can understand that!
What do you think it is about this story that appeals to so many? It explores the timeless highs and lows of family life, whether it be petty squabbles, falling in love or
confronting our own mortality or that of loved ones. Louisa May Alcott writes such universal truths that it’s hard not to see the parallels in our own lives.
What are you most looking forward to about taking the show out on tour? I can’t wait to explore new cities that I’ve never visited and stay with my family around the UK! My granddad’s never seen me on stage before, so Birmingham Rep will be the first time that he can, which will be very special.
